About

Artist statement

I am describing myself as "a re-emerging artist". I attained an MA at the dawn of the millennium and the returned home, then to London and to what my Dad called "a proper job".
Some family, some trauma and some diverting trajectories later and I am present, in the moment and returning to my first love.
My paintings explore the emotional landscape of life's highs and lows, using abstraction to express moments held in the internal memory and express them utilising colour, light, textures and layering. This is an exploratory and intuitive process, often creating an atmosphere of tension as often as that ultimately, of calm.
Each of my pieces is a reflection of personal growth, resilience and the beauty to be found in both struggle and joy.

Brand statement / Rationale

Art has always been a part of my view and my style explores the tension between structure and fluidity, displaying my own experiences of resilience, vulnerability and ultimately growth. Our journeys around the sun may be for nought if we remain static. As such, I can see the effects of events in my recent work, yet the blueprint being used is obviously unchanged.
I hope to leave viewers with space to find their own connections within the use of colours and layers of paints and forms, where the colours become the very substance and form of the subject.
Returning to Art has been a reclaiming of an identity for me, an exploration not only of materials, but of self. My Dad died a few years ago and so after giving up his family name when I married, I am using his for my company name as a reclamation, becoming once more, 'A Brady'.
Despite the nostalgia, I am committed to continuous growth in my practice and to sharing work that resonates with authenticity and emotional depth.

I generally only apply short explanations with my paintings, as I would like the observer to form their own narrative. But, if you are interested I would be happy to share my view on any specific piece -just message me with the details of whichever has caught your eye.
Each of my paintings has been signed, but this signature (the logo above) may not be initially present. What will be clearly visible though is the company name, written by hand on any available space, somewhere on the painting. This is a statement of authenticity and of course, not available if you decide instead to purchase a print.
